SHCS Welcomes New Board Member
Jun 24, 2025
Join us in welcoming our new Board Member Dr. Bertrand García-Moreno

Dr. Bertrand García-Moreno is Professor of Biophysics and Executive Vice Dean of the Krieger School of Arts and Science at Johns Hopkins University. Trained in physical chemistry and biochemistry, his laboratory studies proteins, how their structures determine their biological functions, how they perform the energy transduction processes that sustain life, and on the engineering of proteins with novel functions. He has enjoyed classical music all his life, initially as amateur player but eventually mostly as listener and concertgoer. He currently serves on the boards of Bowdoin College, the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor Maine, and Telluride Science.
Of his appointment, Dr. García-Moreno says, “Never have music and all the arts been more necessary as antidote to the disquieting noise all around us, and never has it been so crucial to work to sustain cultural organizations such as the Shriver Concert Hall Series, to ensure that they continue to thrive and bring joy to our community.”
SHCS is also pleased to announce Ian Heavers as the new Chair of Shriver Hall Concert Series. A passionate advocate for music in Baltimore, Mr. Heavers has served on the Board of Directors for 10 years, including as Vice Chair and Treasurer. He is the head of financial planning and analysis at T. Rowe Price.
“Shriver Hall Concert Series has an extraordinary 60-year legacy of bringing world-class chamber music to Baltimore,” he says. “As we embark on our seventh decade, we remain focused on delivering exceptional musical experiences for our audiences. I am honored to serve as the new Chair and am delighted to welcome Bertrand García-Moreno to the Board of Directors. He brings a deep passion for classical music, strong affiliations with Johns Hopkins University, and distinguished leadership experience that will be of great value to the organization. Together with the Board and Executive Director Catherine Cochran, I am committed to championing artistic excellence, strengthening the organization, and deepening our engagement with the Baltimore community.”
In addition to electing Mr. Heavers as Chair, the Board also elected Dr. Christopher Falzone as Vice Chair, Julie Schwait as Treasurer, and Dr. Ericka Covington as Secretary. Dr. Falzone is a Professor of Chemistry at The Johns Hopkins University; Ms. Schwait is retired from The Park School; and Dr. Covington is the Dean of Graduate Studies at Coppin State University.
