“McGill played with his trademark brilliance, penetrating sound and rich character. That the ovation was so enthusiastic was no surprise.” —The New York Times
Hailed as one of classical music's most recognizable and brilliantly multifaceted figures, Anthony McGill is principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic and the orchestra’s first African-American principal player. Distinguished both as a soloist with top orchestras and for his collaborations with such musical titans as Emanuel Ax, Gil Shaham, and Mitsuko Uchida, McGill is also a celebrated chamber musician who last appeared on Shriver Hall Concert Series' stage in 2017 with cellist Alisa Weilerstein and pianist Inon Barnatan.

Pre-Concert Discussion at 7:35pm with Anthony McGill, moderated by Thomas C. Holt, University Chicago Professor of American and African-American History.

This concert will end at approximately 8:45pm.
