Celebrating 45 YEARS of Bringing Music to Life
Dear Friends,
Shriver Hall Concert Series invites you to our 2010–2011 season Celebrating 45 Years of Bringing Music to Life.
Since its founding in 1966, the Series has brought the world’s finest artists and your favorite repertoire to Baltimore.
Our 45th Anniversary Subscription Series carries-on this tradition by bringing back the internationally acclaimed artists
you’ve come to expect: the Emerson String Quartet, Gautier Capuçon with pianist Gabriela Montero, Nelson Freire,
Gil Shaham, and the Tokyo String Quartet with Leon Fleisher. We also present important debuts that will resonate for years to come:
the Weiss-Kaplan-Newman Trio, pianist Jonathan Biss in his full recital debut, and soprano Measha Brueggergosman in her
subscription series debut.
The Series’ commitment to providing access to new audiences while cultivating “rising stars” continues with our
hugely successful free ‘Discovery Series’ in collaboration with the Baltimore Museum of Art. The Saturday afternoon
concerts feature two very exciting young ensembles, the Jupiter and Escher string quartets in programs that will examine the intersection
of visual and musical art. The Series closes with the 2010 Winner of the Yale Gordon Competition at the Peabody Institute of
The Johns Hopkins University.
This spectacular menu of music and artists will be illuminated by our two lecture series—The Albert I. Mendeloff Memorial Lectures,
which precede the subscription concerts, and the annual Ray Sprenkle Spring Lecture Series, probably Baltimore’s most popular
enlightening and entertaining music lectures.
As we reflect on forty-five amazing years of musical excellence and look forward to a bright and enriching future filled with great music,
we thank you—our audience—for your support, generosity, and passion for music performed by the very best artists in the world.
Stephen Jacobsohn, Executive Director
