NPR’s nationally broadcast “Morning Edition” featured a 7-minute segment about Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s work Flow written for the Takács Quartet. Co-commissioned Shriver Hall Concert Series and eight other presenters, we presented the work’s East Coast premiere at the Takacs String Quartet’s concert on our stage in November.

The Takács Quartet charged Ms. Ngwenyama to make a work inspired by the natural world. As noted in the segment, “she spent more than a year researching topics as varied as carbon reclamation, animal communication, and black hole collisions.” The segment goes on to interview the artists about expressing the natural world through the medium of a string quartet, the lessons of particle physics, and the process of creation.

The music heard throughout the segment is from the Takács Quartet’s performance at Shriver Hall!
